The future earnings of the outdoor industry and the future stewardship of our public lands are interrelated: both depend on new constituencies for success. No demographics are riper for investment than communities of color.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, five alumni of The Emerging Leaders Program will present case studies on ways they’ve successfully leveraged outdoor recreation to engage a culturally relevant next generation of conservationist and customer.
Introduced by Christian Beckwith, Director of SHIFT, the panel will feature five Emerging Leaders (“ELPers”). Allison Williams, a Reclamation Guide with the Bureau of Reclamation, will moderate, while Michelle Piñon (Northwest Regional Coordinator, Latino Outdoors), Taimur Ahmad (Recreation and Policy Fellow, The Wilderness Society), Liz Sodja (Marketing Manager, Utah Conservation Corps) and Michael Davis (Trip Leader, YMCA’s BOLD) present their case studies.
The panel will take place from 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. in Salon A of the Downtown Marriott City Creek. It is free and open to the public. More information about it may be found here.
