On Wednesday, November 1, following a keynote address by former Director of the National Park Service Jon Jarvis, SHIFT for the Planet will mark Day 1 of the 2017 SHIFT Festival with a showcase of some of the most innovative, impactful and replicable examples of outdoor recreation and conservation work in the country.
In its inaugural year, the event will also create multiple funding opportunities for participants.
Designed in partnership with 1% for the Planet, Silicon Couloir, George B. Storer Foundation and Blue Sky Funders Forum, SHIFT for the Planet spotlights eight SHIFT Award finalists, the majority of whom are 1% for the Planet partners, in a series of five-minute presentations that will feature the work’s focus, its impact, and a central challenge facing its ongoing success.
The work will be evaluated by both the audience and a jury, who will decide the recipients of two $2,500 prizes—a Jury’s Choice and People’s Choice Award—which will go to the presentations deemed to be most Impactful, Innovative and Replicable.
Audience members will be able to donate directly to the organizations whose presentations they like via “donate” buttons on the SHIFT for the Planet main page.
For funders who seek to protect our public lands by supporting the country’s best conservation work, SHIFT for the Planet offers a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of and relationships with organizations at the front lines of the outdoor recreation/conservation partnership, and to gather privately to discuss strategies to increase the impact of their work.
More than a dozen funders will attend SHIFT for the Planet, and gather afterward to network, discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the nonprofits and learn from leaders in the space about ways to align and enhance the impact of their funding strategies. The private gathering will serve as a focus group for funders who support work in outdoor recreation, conservation and next-gen engagement.
