On October 16, as part of the kick-off to The 2018 SHIFT Festival in Jackson Hole, 1% for the Planet and SHIFT will partner to present the second annual SHIFT for the Planet event.
Entitled “Public Lands, Public Health,” The 2018 SHIFT Festival and SHIFT for the Planet will explore how natural allies in outdoor recreation, conservation, land management, and health care can work together to advance and promote the benefits of time spent outside on our public lands.
SHIFT for the Planet, which is designed to bring together funders and organizations at the front lines of the outdoor recreation / conservation partnership, will feature eight non-profit organizations that have been honored as 2018 SHIFT Award Official Selections.
Representatives of selected organizations will each make five-minute presentations that highlight the organization’s focus, its impact, and a central challenge to its ongoing success.
The SHIFT Awards recognize individuals, initiatives, or organizations that make innovative, impactful and replicable contributions to conservation through human-powered outdoor recreation. In the context of the 2018 Public Lands, Public Health theme, the work of the 2018 SHIFT for the Planet presenters will help advance and promote the health benefits of time spent outside.
Following the presentations, funders will be invited to network, discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the nonprofits, allocate support for the selected nonprofits, and learn from leaders in the space about ways to align and enhance the impact of their funding strategies.
“For funders who seek to protect our public lands and bring an environmental perspective to public health issues, SHIFT for the Planet offers a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge of and relationships with the country’s best environmental work at the intersection of public lands and public health. Hearing from and engaging with all of these organizations in one location in-person is a truly valuable and unique experience,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.
SHIFT for the Planet is part of the SHIFT Festival’s commitment to showcasing on-the-ground work that is successfully meeting challenges at the nexus of outdoor recreation and conservation in communities around the country.
“Now, more than ever, we need strategic approaches to insure the health and well-being of our public lands and the many rural and urban communities that benefit from them,” said Williams. “If you’re invested in the future of conservation, join us in an event that will amplify and enhance the shared impact of funders.”
