Douglas Bradbury lives in Crested Butte Colorado and is the vice president of the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association (CBMBA). He has been an active member of this 30 year old association since 1988 after discovering the incredible community and back country that is Crested Butte.
In 1985 Doug founded Manitou Mountain Bikes in Colorado Springs, Co. where he designed and built custom mountain bikes until 1990 when he became one of the first designers and builders of suspension front forks for mountain bikes. He received multiple patents and trademarks on those forks and subsequently licensed his designs to Answer Products in Valencia Calif. who took them to the mass market. In 1994 he was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Doug continued doing design work for Answer/Manitou until he was bought out in 1997.
After Answer/Manitou Doug started another bicycle company with the world champion racer John Tomac under the Tomac brand. Bradbury sold his interest in Tomac in 2001 and retired from the business of bicycles to concentrate on the pleasure of riding bicycles. He has lived full time in Crested Butte since 2001 and put his passion of building bicycles into building fun, challenging, sustainable trails not just for bicycles but hikers, runners, horses and the entire community to enjoy.
