Jeanne Liston has been in the non-profit arena for more than 14 years. She moved to Idaho in 1999 after spending several years working and volunteering overseas in Europe, Africa and Asia. Her time abroad included such disparate duties as starting a French program at a middle school in Kenya, working with endangered fish eagles in Madagascar, and assisting street children and AIDS patients in the slums of Bangkok, Thailand.
Jeanne became the first paid staff and Executive Director of the Blaine County Hunger Coalition (The Hunger Coalition) in July of 2007. She has guided the organization through a tremendous period of growth, working with the Board to increase the initial $70,000 operating budget by more than ten-fold, expanding programs and increasing staff from one to nine. Jeanne has overseen the implementation of several programs that directly feed children and families in Blaine County, increasing the meals served from 4,500 when she started to nearly 950,000 to date.
Under Jeanne’s leadership, The Hope Garden came to life in 2010 on a vacant lot. From a barren field rose a 10,000 square foot garden that has contributed over 6,000 pounds of fresh, organically grown produce for the community’s hungry. The garden provides empowerment programs for Hunger Coalition clients and is an outdoor classroom, gathering space and quiet respite for all to enjoy.
Jeanne lives in Bellevue with her husband, Tom, and their dog, Jango. In her spare time she enjoys yoga and hiking in the beautiful mountains of Sun Valley.
