Meredith de la Garza, Executive Director, Niparaja: Meredith de la Garza has been dedicated to coastal and marine conservation in Northwestern Mexico since 1999. She collaborated with Pronatura Noroeste designing ad implementing diverse initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for teachers and students to learn about nature and coastal wetlands. In 2008, she joined Niparaja, one of the largest Mexican organziations in Northwestern Mexico. She has implemented diverse initiatives to improve marine protected areas management. Since 2012, she is the executive director and now oversees the three conservation programs at Niparaja: Marine Conservation, Water Conservation and Land Conservation. Niparaja has implemented many successful initiatives to protect iconic environments in Baja California Sur, with strategies such as fostering a wide participation of diverse audiences in campaigns to protect key landscapes, land acquisition and promoting the creation and proper management of protected areas.
