SHIFT’s organizers announced today the final programming for the first and last nights of the 2015 SHIFT Festival.
One program is a highly customized and intimate glimpse of the evolution of two of skiing’s hottest stars.
The other features the founder of the fun-hog lifestyle in a cinematic exploration of what it means to be a modern adventurer.
Both programs bookend four days of dynamic programming with what is arguably today’s most compelling medium: film.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the Cool Skiing, Hot Planet film program, featuring Angel Collinson and Lucas Debari, kicks off the 2015 SHIFT Festival’s evening events with a focus on how the influencers of snow sports are driving the climate-action revolution.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Adventure, Inspired program, featuring Yvon Chouinard, concludes the 2015 Festival with a film program that goes to the heart of why we climb, ski, surf, run—and explores the ways real engagement starts when the adventures are done.
“Film is perhaps the strongest way to convey ideas to audiences,” said SHIFT Director Christian Beckwith. “Angel, Lucas and Yvon are incredibly well positioned to use it to advance one of SHIFT’s central goals: to leverage outdoor recreation for the preservation of our wild places.”

The Cool Skiing, Hot Planet program features a conversation between the two friends, Collinson and Debari. The evening’s narrative uses films that illustrate their personal journeys to highlight their evolutions as a skier and snowboarder who now occupy the front lines of climate activism: how they got there, what they’re doing about climate change—and what the rest of us can do, too.
The evening—a collaboration with Teton Gravity Research, The North Face, and Protect Our Winters—will be introduced by Chris Steinkamp, Protect Our Winters’ Executive Director. It will finish with a presentation of The Little Things, by professional snowboarder Marie-France Roy and director Filmmaker Darcy Turenne.
Proceeds from a silent auction, which include a Grand Pass to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and a Mountain Collective ski pass, will be donated to Protect Our Winters.
The film program will be preceded by a happy hour discussion on the same topic with the influencers of snow sports.

Saturday’s Adventure, Inspired program features Yvon Chouinard, one of the men who, in 1968, traveled from Ventura, California, to Argentina to climb the mountain Fitz Roy.
On their trip, the men climbed, skied, and surfed. They called themselves “fun hogs.”
When he returned to Ventura, Chouinard started the company Patagonia to improve the clothing and equipment available to adventurers of the day.
The trip is credited as the genesis of the “fun-hog lifestyle.”
Saturday evening’s lineup features five films—Cold Waters, Stacy’s Story, Mile for Mile, The Fisherman’s Son, and Jumbo Wild.
Following the presentation of the first four films, Chouinard, with participation from the audience, will talk with three of the films’ protagonists—Stacy Bare, Todd Tanner and Luke Nelson—about the ways today’s adventure athletes protect the places where they like to play.
The evening will finish with a screening of Jumbo Wild.
“The goal of both evenings is to inspire people to protect these special and fragile places we love so deeply,” says Beckwith. “These are powerful films, presented by powerful people. We’re looking forward to sharing them with our audiences.”
