SHIFT is a new nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of more than 1,000 member companies in 40 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes.
As a nonprofit partner, SHIFT is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations. 1% member businesses fuel this nonprofit network through their annual contributions. Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which SHIFT can look to for support.
As a newly approved partner, SHIFT contributes to a healthier planet by unifying natural allies around the common goal of protecting the places in which we play.
“1% for the Planet member businesses donate at least 1% of their annual sales to support environmental nonprofits,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “We believe deeply that these nonprofits play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet, and our core work is to grow the corporate support that enables these nonprofits to accomplish even more.”
Over 3,800 nonprofits worldwide are included in the 1% for the Planet network, and over $145 million has been funneled to its nonprofit partners to date.
“The challenges we’re up against are too large for any single one of us to solve on his or her own,” says Christian Beckwith, SHIFT’s director. “By uniting natural allies around the common goal of protecting the places in which we play, SHIFT’s collective impact model will increase our effectiveness and our leverage.”

Held each October in the “crucible of conservation,” Jackson Hole, SHIFT (Shaping How we Invest For Tomorrow) is an annual festival that explores the intersection of conservation and outdoor recreation with speakers, workshops, panel discussions, food, film, and outdoor adventure. Our objective is to advance on-the-ground solutions that leverage outdoor recreation for conservation gains, and to create a collective impact model to help advance the protection of our public lands, waters and wildlife.
From October 13-15, 2016, SHIFT will convene a highly curated gathering of outdoor rec, conservation, land management, communication and youth engagement advocates as we develop and strengthen the coalition of stakeholders dedicated to the preservation of our public lands. The theme of the 2016 Festival, “Outdoor Rec & Our Public Lands,” reflects its focus on three main topics: the public land transfer movement; funding for public lands; and next-generation engagement and cultural relevancy.
