Gayle Hazelwood

Gayle Hazelwood, an Ohio native, has served with the National Park Service for over thirty years. In her time with the National Park Service, she has worked in various capacities, from serving as Chief of Interpretation at Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site to Superintendent of New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park, to Deputy Regional Director in the Southeast Region. Some of her most memorable moments with the National Park Service include creating the first in-park, overnight experience for inner city children at Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area and spearheading the completion of the permanent exhibits at Martin Luther King, Jr’s National Historic Site. In November of 2015, Gayle was selected as the National Park Service Senior Urban Program Manager. An avid traveler, outdoors enthusiast,
and golfer, Gayle’s life and passion are best summed up in her own words. “I was 20 years old before I had any knowledge of the National Park Service. I want to do all I can to make sure that does not happen to the young generation of today. All children young and old should have firsthand knowledge and experience with their National Parks.”

Gayle will moderate the panel ‘Public Lands, Urban America‘ on Saturday, October 15 at 10:00 AM as part of the SHIFT Summit. 
Gayle will also be introducing the film Diversity and Inclusion In Our Wild Spaces during the 2016 SHIFT Adventure, Inspired evening.
