Heidi’s background in trails and conservation started over 20+ years ago in New England working and volunteering in the Green Mountains of VT and on the Appalachian Mountain Club Trail Crew in the White Mountains of NH. Heidi moved west to complete her Masters degree at the University of Colorado – Boulder/CIRES in the early 90’s and began her professional career in the GIS department mapping municipal water lines and emergency management systems for a local engineering firm. Heidi was active in her local mountain community of Nederland where she was able to explore the large landscapes of the Colorado high country. Heidi’s science and GIS work background led her to the Nature Conservancy where she joined the science team working to support conservation and large landscapes across the west. In 2007, Heidi moved to Whitefish, Montana with her husband, two children and two golden dogs and became quickly involved with Whitefish Legacy Partners. Under Heidi’s leadership, Whitefish Legacy Partners has proven to be pivotal in community-based conservation and has successfully launched the Whitefish Trail project consisting of 42 miles of trail and 12 trailheads. Heidi has been working as the executive director helping WLP to catalyze projects supporting conservation, recreation, education and community stewardship throughout the Flathead Valley.
