Keynote Presentation: Atiya Wells

Atiya Wells is a pediatric nurse and nature educator in Baltimore City who dedicates her free time to fostering nature connection in urban environments. She is the founder of Backyard Basecamp, an organization geared toward connecting Baltimore’s residents to wildlife in the city, and also serves as the Executive Director of BLISS Meadows, an innovative social justice project that creates equitable access to green space in her community and preserves 10 acres of land in order to connect Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to African-American agricultural history and culture.

She is a 2020 SHIFT Award winner in two categories: in Land Management Innovation, for BLISS Meadows, and as a Health and Nature Champion.

With her keynote address, Atiya will speak to the ways we can create nature connections in communities where they are lacking.
