Anna Sharratt founded Free Forest School in 2015 and now serves as Executive Director. Anna developed the concept behind Free Forest School out of observation of her two young children. Frustrated that nature programs were cost-prohibitive to many, she endeavored to teach parents to provide meaningful nature play experiences themselves. Her model has been replicated in more than 100 locations worldwide, engaging over 2500 kids in nature play each week. Anna envisions growing the Free Forest School movement into a powerful global network of parents, restoring nature play as an integral part of childhood and achieving meaningful change in education, city planning, and environmental policy to increase equity of access to nature. Anna lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children; they enjoy rock-climbing, skiing, paddling, and taking winter saunas. She has worked as an educator, both in wilderness-based experiential education and education for social justice, since 2002.
